Resolved: choosing Company KPIs

I am curious, do data analysts/scientists create these KPIs by themselves or the company just hand it to them. how much involvement do you have as the creator of these dashboards beside understaning the business context

Hi!
Great question! The level of involvement depends on the company and its data culture. In some organizations, key performance indicators (KPIs) are set by leadership, industry benchmarks, or predefined frameworks. However, data analysts and scientists play a crucial role in refining, validating, and even proposing new KPIs based on data-driven insights.

Beyond just understanding the business context, analysts are deeply involved in designing dashboards, selecting the right metrics, ensuring data accuracy, and making the insights actionable. A well-designed dashboard isn’t just about visualization—it tells a story and helps decision-makers take informed action.
Best,
Ned
