Constructive Feedback on Probability Course: Bridging Theory and Application

Dear Team,

I wanted to share some feedback regarding the probability class, particularly the Continuous Distribution section. While I appreciate the effort put into creating this course, I believe there's an opportunity to enhance the learning experience for students.

The theoretical content in the video lectures is comprehensive, and I've gained a solid understanding of the concepts. However, I've noticed a gap between the theory presented and its practical application in problem-solving, especially as it relates to the quiz questions.

For instance, the first question in the quiz requires a level of applied mathematics that wasn't directly demonstrated in the lectures. It would be incredibly helpful if the course included examples that bridge this gap, showing how to apply the theoretical concepts to solve specific problems similar to those we encounter in the quizzes.

I believe incorporating more practical demonstrations would significantly improve students' ability to tackle the quiz questions confidently. Perhaps consider adding a section in each lecture that walks through a problem-solving process, explicitly connecting the theory to its practical application.

This addition would not only better prepare students for the assessments but also deepen our understanding of how probability theory is applied in real-world scenarios.

I appreciate your consideration of this feedback and look forward to seeing how the course might evolve to address this learning opportunity.

Thank you for your dedication to our education.

Sincerely,
Justin

Hi Justin,
Thanks so much for your feedback. We do appreciate it. I think in most courses, we have tried to apply this approach and show students how to solve a practical task. We'll look into adding one here.
Best,
Ned

Great! Please let me know what you decide. There are some YouTube videos that explain continuous distributions, like the normal distributions, and they employ this approach. This video in particular did a decent job at helping us bridge that gap. He did a couple demos at the end of the video.

One other note. Please review the practical example lecture. Notice that there is almost no correlation between those examples and the problems in the quiz. I'd like to see there be some more correlation between those two items.
