do we always use Z statistics when worrking with 2 populations with known variance ?
Say we have a sample of 10 students in engineering and 7 in management. Do we use T statistics instead of Z ?

Z-test is used when sample size is large (n>30), or the population variance is known. t-test is used when sample size is small (n<30) and population variance is unknown
