Elaborate column "partner company"

in Introduction to Excel / Understand Your Data Source Before You Start Working on It

What is  the logic of numbers here?
I'm unable to understand.
Please explain.

Hi,
This is simply a code which designates a particular company. The numbers do not have any underlying logic. It is just that every number corresponds to a given 'partner company'.
