I want to get into Data Science field, Where should i start( My Study Background is passed High School in Non-medical stream in 2009)

Hello Everyone,  I need help from you guys to make a decision about my career. I had passed my high school in Non-medical Stream with 67% Marks in 2009. After high school, I didn't study further due to family circumstances. From the year 2009, I was helping in our family business. Now I want to gain specific skills and I have a lot of interest in the computer field. After researching a lot I came across word Data Scientist. I read a few blogs and did a deep research about this field and it does fascinate me. if someone can advise what path should I choose, currently I am deciding first to get into Data Analyst so for that, I am thinking to learn about any one of the following languages SAS, R, and Python. Also basic about machine learning and statistics. I also want to know how good someone should be in Mathematics as I will consider my level from low to average in mathematics. Do I have to complete any degree to get an entry-level job in data analysis? As I am planning to go for a Data science degree as part-time from The Open University through online mode which will take six years to complete and want to work in any job related to Data analysis while studying part-time. Please advise me if I am choosing the right way by choosing the data analyst field. Which language(SAS, R, Python) will be more helpful for me to secure an entry-level job in Data analyst field. What other skills do I need along with the languages for starting? please refer me to some free courses and Bootcamp to gain these skills for starting.  Best Regards, Mandeep

Hi Mandeep, Great to hear from you. I am glad that you're interested in the field of data science. Our YouTube channel and blog are two great resources I'd recommend for you. For example, here's a link to our 'Can you become a Data Scientist' video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AkBfBWr_Gw Best, Ned

Hi Mandeep, If your math skills are low to average my recommendation would be to start with these and build a foundation. You need math and statistics to be able to understand and eventually work in data science. If you have a high school degree only, my honest advice would be to upgrade your skills and target positions which require less experience than data scientist.  Best, Ned

Get reading, there are so many great resources and blogs out there. Maybe start with machine learning, feature engineering (link here with https://www.explorium.ai/feature-engineering/) related resources and then move on and up from there. Good luck, it is a fascinating and exciting field.

Hi. Great to have you join us! Definitely start with your math and statistics. After that, you can just start with your own projects and get feedback from the community for them. This site has a lot of ideas for getting started. Data Hunters also has a lot of categories and use cases you can look into https://www.data-hunters.com/
