Various Methods of Sorting in Excel and their implications

Hello,

What is the difference between sorting a sheet based on one column by doing the following:
a. Ctrl + L (filter drop down comes) and sorting Largest to Smallest
b. Doing Custom Sort by selecting 'Volume' and sorting largest to smallest based on its value  (as shown in the tutorial)

Is there a possibility of misrepresentation of information by choosing the first option?
