Why do we try and forecast time series data?

I believe forecasting time-series data "MAY" persist in the future and not necessarily "EXPECTED" to persist in the future when observing patterns from the past...(In my opinion).  Future time-series events may take different patterns after observing the patterns of the same events in the past..!!!
