Timothée Demoures, eloquens.com

timothée demoures interview, Timothée Demoures data scientist

Hey, Timothée, could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

Sure! My name is Timothée Demoures. I am currently the Managing Director of Eloquens.com, a New York City company and the leading platform for sharing ready-to-use know-how online. I was appointed by the board to lead the company & team from its first initial stage to its business maturity. Before hopping into the startup adventure, I was a management consultant at Strategy& (PwC Group) in Paris. In terms of academic background, I’m a business major.

Wow! You have quite the background, you must be thrilled to be applying your skills at a growing platform like Eloquens. Now, as an experienced professional, you know that Data Science became popular relatively recently. Could you tell us when you heard about the field for the first time? When did you get interested in it and why do you think helping the data science community grow is essential?

Data science feeds business creativity.

Data Science is indeed a growing discipline and activity in businesses. Actually, I first heard about it when I was at Business School. Having studied mathematics and statistics, I was impressed by the power of data and how it could assist leaders in their decision making. At Eloquens.com, we have a lot of data flowing in through the platform every day. So, I consider that data has its seat on the board, at the same level as Customer Satisfaction. I also believe helping the data science community grow is key to giving leaders objective facts & statistics on their business. Furthermore, it gives them hints about what new areas to explore. Overall, data science feeds business creativity, and in that sense, it is essential to keep the community growing.

Timothée, you are the Managing Director of Eloquens. Could you share a bit more about the services you are offering?

Sure, it’s my pleasure. Eloquens.com is the leading online platform for sharing ready-to-use know-how with 250 published authors and 60,000 registered users from 186 countries. The marketplace covers themes ranging from Finance, Marketing, Strategy, Leadership & HR to Technology.

That’s really impressive! When did you start?

Thank you. We launched our platform in June 2016, and we have remained true to our vision ever since.  Namely, to make know-how a common good. Indeed, many professionals spend too much time reinventing the wheel every day. Unfortunately, they are unaware that someone else has already built similar content in the past or is creating it simultaneously on the other side of the world.

Seems like you found a great solution for this problem. Could you explain further to our readers how you create value for users and emerging businesses?

We take pride in the easy, hassle-free user experience we provide.

On one hand, the platform offers publication channels for content creators to share, sell & organize their know-how. We take pride in the easy, hassle-free user experience we provide. On the other hand, the marketplace offers people in search of smart content a wide diversity of options, as well as the opportunity to reach out to the author and user community. As you can see, our system creates value on both sides of the table, in a helpful, trustworthy, and fun way. Some authors already make more than $1,000 every month now in passive revenue, helping hundreds of people across the globe.

That’s quite interesting. In your opinion, which are the most trending tools among your users at the moment? Why do you believe users are interested in these specific solutions?

As of March 2019, we’re seeing a growing interest for technology-related tools, such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. I believe this is due to the fact that there is a demand for structured approaches. Industries need them to grasp the gist of these themes to get instant results in businesses. So, continuing to expand in these fields in the next few years is one of our priorities.

Based on your observations for the past, let’s say, 3 years, can you tell if people’s interest in data science has been gradually increasing?

Absolutely! We’ve seen it both on the demand side (users asking for tools) and on the author side (authors asking for more data on their activity on the platform). With data science considerably improving user experience and businesses, it’s not surprising to see a growing demand for simple & efficient tools to analyze this data.

We couldn’t agree with you more. Talking about tools, can you think of a moment when you or a team member needed a specific tool or solution and you found it on your platform? Do you implement some of the tools you provide on the platform in your business?

Great question! Yes, of course. This has happened to us multiple times. As a startup, we’ve had to model our business and prepare pitch decks to raise funds. Fortunately, the great inspiration we’ve been getting from Financial Models and Pitch Decks posted by our Authors helped us to In addition, this accelerated our learning curve and enabled us to get our key documents ready in a record time. Moreover, on the Leadership & HR level, I'm personally trying to listen and read our authors to get insights to improve my management skills in specific situations.

That’s really inspiring! Thanks for sharing it with our readers. Now, tip of the interview. Is there a nifty tool that you discovered or were introduced to, which you now can’t live without and want to share with aspiring data scientists?

Sure! While there are plenty of useful tools on Eloquens.com that proved key to our success, I believe the cornerstone tool that we’re using to gather & analyze data from our site is Google Analytics. Nothing new or fancy, but if you use GA to its full potential, it’s the best way to get the necessary insights to make quick decisions.

Yeah, we can definitely see your point, Timothée. And, finally, it’s time for a time-honored tradition. Every time we conduct these interviews, we finish with some nerdery. What is the one nerdy thing you would like to share with the world? It doesn’t have to be data science related at all.

Funny fact for comic nerd enthusiasts. Bruce Wayne, Batman’s alter ego, controls “Wayne Enterprises”, which in turn owns “The Daily Planet” for who Clark Kent, Superman’s alter ego, works for. The loop is closed.

Pun of the interview. Lastly, we leave our readers with a joke. What’s yours?

An eskimo brings his friend to his home for a visit. When they arrive, his friend asks, puzzled – “So where’s your igloo?” – The friend replies “Oh no, I must’ve left the iron on…”

That’s so funny. Alright, Timothée, thanks so much for your time! Would you like to share anything else with our audience that maybe we didn’t get a chance to ask?

All good! Just want to mention that if there are any readers that would like to share their own Data Science know-how, or any other form, they’re welcome to open an Author Channel on Eloquens.com. It’s a great way to build a community around their work, helping hundreds of people reach their goals, while building a passive revenue stream.

Fantastic! Thank you for answering all our questions, Timothée, and giving us awesome insight into Eloquens and what you do over there. Our readers will definitely benefit from what you’ve shared with us. We wish you success in all your future endeavors.
