Categorical and numerical outcomes

Hi, I am learning the course of probability, could someone helps me to distinguish categorical and numerical outcomes. For example, in the material, the chance to have a space for each time taking a card is categorical outcomes but the chance to shot an arrow to the target with 3 different areas would be calculate with numerical outcomes. Can we use categorical outcome formula for the latter?  Thank you very much.

Hey Huu,    We stick to numerical outcomes for the arrow example because each layer is associated with the number of points you get by hitting it.    Best,  365 Vik
