I followed the instructions to download mysql server and workbench on Mac.
I was able to open the default connection and use workbench
However I turned my laptop on this afternoon and tried to open the connection on workbench but got this error (THE ‘ENTER A PASSWORD’ BOX DID NOT POP UP):
Cannot Connect to Database Server
Your connection attempt failed for user ‘root’ to the MySQL server at :3306:
Unable to connect to :3306
1 Check that MySQL is running on address
2 Check that MySQL is reachable on port 3306 (note: 3306 is the default, but this can be changed)
3 Check the user root has rights to connect to from your address (MySQL rights define what clients can connect to the server and from which machines)
4 Make sure you are both providing a password if needed and using the correct password for connecting from the host address you’re connecting from
I clicked ‘edit connection’ and tried to enter the password I had created when installing the server on the mac terminal but this still not worked

Thank you also for providing all this information. However, can you please tell us what happens if you choose “Connect” as opposed to “Edit Connection…”, if you have both these options available?
Then, can you please double-check the password you are using to access the connection (hence, check for CapsLock being turned on/off, the language of your keyboard while typing the password.
Moreover, please support your questions with screenshot(s), if you this could be relevant.
We are sorry we cannot provide a quick one-step solution, but such type of issues are very case-specific and it might take a few steps and some time before you manage to resolve the problem.
Finally, if you are certain that the problem relates to the password you are trying to access the connection with, then you’d need to reset it (and that’s not a very intuitive task), or just remove MySQL from your Mac completely, and then install it “fresh” again.

Thank you Martin. The error comes up when I select ‘connect’. I did try to upload a screenshoot but I couldn’t figure out how because I was asked for an ‘image url’ ? I will just reinstall it using a guide I saw on Youtube ! Hopefully it works. Thanks for your response !

Yes, reinstalling Workbench is sometimes the quickest solution but please make sure you’ve first removed it from your device completely, before you start the installation process again. Regarding uploading an image, please consider the following that while asking a new question, you can Add Media.
After you’ve selected the relevant file, you can insert it into the post by clicking the following button located in the bottom-right part of the screen.
