How to determine the right bin width?

Hello, I have questions regarding bin width:
  1. How to determine the right bin width when creating the graphs?
  2. What kind of graphs use bin width? I think except scatter plot?
More explanation about bin width would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Melissa, First the bin width is usually used for a histogram. A scatter plot does not have bin width, as there are no bins involved. Usually we are talking about a histgoram. The bin width itself really depends on your problem.  I am usually aiming for number of bins (and not a specific bin width). 5 to 10 bins are optimal for most problems.  Best, Iliya
