So I have the MySQL Workbench where I downloaded from the software manager on my Linux Mint computer. It was a super easy installation. However, when I click on the local instance rectangle then I get the following error:
“Your connection attempt failed for user ‘root’ from your host to server at localhost:3306:
Access denied for user ‘root’@’localhost’
Please:
1 Check that mysql is running on server localhost
2 Check that mysql is running on port 3306 (note: 3306 is the default, but this can be changed)
3 Check the root has rights to connect to localhost from your address (mysql rights define what clients can connect to the server and from which machines)
4 Make sure you are both providing a password if needed and using the correct password for localhost connecting from the host address you’re connecting from”
It never asked me to input a password. How do I resolve this issue?
Hi KC Gubler!
Great to have you in the course and thanks for reaching out!
Can you please create a new connection, just as shown in the course (after pressing the plus sign in the top left part of the screen) and then use a different port?
If this doesn’t help, do you think you may already be using port 3306 for something else?
Looking forward to your answer.
Best,
Martin
