Right & Left Functions

Right , Left & Mid Functions are used to extract Text in Excel , but the Date Infos are aligned in Excel to the Right , which means that they are recognized in excel as numbers , am i wrong ? although it worked out , but i'm little confused . Can u clarify it please ? Thanks in advance !

Hi Moataz,

Yes, we use RIGHT, LEFT, and MID to extract the date information from Excel. In this case, we are able to do that and obtain the desired output. An alternative would be to stick to a date formatting, but this is trickier when we work with pivot tables and GETPIVOTDATA (very often GETPIVOTDATA doesn't recognize the date formatting when we want to substitute in the formulat). In that case, probably many people would have ended up with mistakes while solving the exercise. This is why we solved the exercise in the way you have seen.
