What Is Ivermectin? Uses, Dosage, and Side Effects Explained

Ivermectin is a globally recognized antiparasitic medication used to treat various infections caused by parasitic worms and insects. It is widely prescribed for conditions such as scabies, head lice, intestinal strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis (river blindness), and other parasitic infestations. It belongs to the class of Ivermectins, originally developed from the soil bacteria Streptomyces avermitilis.


What is Ivermectin Used For?

Ivermectin Tablets are FDA-approved and WHO-recommended for the treatment of the following parasitic conditions:

Lice (head and body)
Cutaneous larva migrans

How It Works:

Ivermectin paralyzes and kills parasites by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels, found in the nerves and muscles of the parasites, leading to their death without affecting human cells.

 Available Forms & Dosage:

Ivermectin 3 mg – For mild infections or lower body weight
Ivermectin 6 mg / 12 mg – For moderate to severe infections
Dosage is weight-based (usually 200 mcg/kg)
Taken once as a single dose, sometimes repeated after 7–14 days
