Resolved: what is the formula for calculating standard error ?

What is the formula for calculating standard error (std. dev / square root of n) or (std. dev^2/square root of n).  In one of the exercises related to calculation of confidence interval [Section 4: 2_Population variance known, z-score] the standard error is calculated as Population standard deviation / square root of n, however I remember from the course that the standard error is calculated as Std. Dev^2 / square root of n.
