Resolved: Hypothesis Testing for P-Value Formula
well let me explain In Statistics Course module name hypothesis testing there is a vedio test for mean population variance unknown. my main confusion is starts from here as in the previous video of p-value it tell us how to find pvalues its simple 1-value get from z or tscore table e.g 1-.9830 =0.017 that is came from z table of 2.1 and 0.02 simple
but when it comes to the video i mention first its confusing i dont really get it how did they get p value in the video he got Tscore of -0.53 and why he didnot find 0.53 in tscore table he simple take n-1 =9 that is understandable but why he using one side significance of 0.05 why he didnot find 0.53 from table why he find 1.833 i dont get it and then after 1.833 you should minus it from 1 according to formula but video didnot tell anything realted to it and give the direct values of 0.304 that is out of the question. please give me the answer about it.
could you please explain it with formula and example.
Thanks for reaching out!
In the lesson, the t-score is −0.53 with degrees of freedom (df) of 9. The p-value is the cumulative probability to the left of t=−0.53 in the t-distribution, which is approximately 0.304.
This value isn’t directly found in the t-table because t-tables usually provide critical values, not probabilities for arbitrary t-scores. To get the p-value, you need to use statistical software, an online calculator, or a more detailed t-table.
The 1.833 is the critical t-value for a one-sided test at α=0.05 with df=9. It’s used to compare the test statistic, not to calculate the p-value. Since |-0.53| is much smaller than 1.833, we fail to reject the null hypothesis.
Hope this helps.
