In a database, formatting data cells typically refers to setting the data type and constraints for each column in a table. While you can't apply visual formatting like in spreadsheets, you can format data by choosing appropriate data types (like INT, VARCHAR, DATE), setting limits (like VARCHAR(255)), and defining how data is stored and displayed (like using DATE formats). This ensures data consistency and correct data handling in the database.

Hope this helps.
Best,
Tsvetelin
