Question on Standardization

Hello,
If a Negative skew means that the mean is less than mode or median, why is it that to move the mean to become normal it was deducted from the values?

thank you

Hi Felicia,

Good to hear from you!

The idea that you have when you hear 'negative' skew is probably the opposite of what it represents in practice.Negative skew means that the distribution is tilted to the right of the median. Here's a picture that makes this clearer:

Hope this makes sense now!
