Question Regarding Joined Year vs Hired Year

Can you explain what you mean by the number of employees JOINED in a given year isn't the same as the number of employees HIRED in that year?  Sorry if that seems like a simple question, but I thought joined and hired were synonymous.  Since we selected the year from the "from date" in SQL, why do we have to further manipulate it in Tableau?

SQL numbers represent who joined each year separately without adding the previous one, hired means we want to see the total after we hire new ones, let's say that the number of F in 1990 was 50 if we hired 10 in 1991 the number should become 60 in 1991, but SQL numbers doesn't show that it gonna show 90 as 50 and 91 as 10 this is why we used cumulative, I hope this helps, and I hope I am right.
