Hello Peter,
In your Tableau version the option “Table (down)” does not appear because Tableau automatically decides which directions to offer based on how the view is structured. When your measure is on Columns Tableau only sees a horizontal layout and gives you “Table (across)” but not “down”. That is why the quick table calculation in your third screenshot gives wrong values—the computation is happening across instead of down. The fix is simple: place the measure on Rows instead of Columns or swap the rows and columns of the chart so that Tableau recognizes a vertical structure. Once you do this the “Compute Using” menu will show “Table (down)”. If it still does not appear you can always right-click the field, open “Edit Table Calculation” and manually select the dimension you want the calculation to run down along, which gives you the same result as “Table (down)”.
Best,
Ned
