Custom Number Format in Excel

For custom number format in Excel, How can we put the square in the subscript notation.

for example: if we need a custom format for variance value such that the dollar sign will have subscript of 2 as a custom formatting.

Perhaps the solution to this problem depends on the Microsoft Office version you are using. Nevertheless, I think that if you type a subscript of 2, copy it, and paste it in the Type: section in the Format Cells box, you will obtain formatting containing the digit 2 written as subscript.
