Hi Syed,

thanks for reaching out! From what I can see you have a lot of tables and white spaces in your data. In order for it to be read correctly you'll most likely have to format it in a certain way. Preferably, each individual table should be in its own sheet without any whitespaces.

Thanks @Elitsa for your answer. So, what I understand is to format excel first and then use in tableau for data modeling. Is there any way to use directly as a data model in a tableau? And what are the other ways to approach for data modeling for this kind of data. Thanks

Syed

Hi Syed,

What you can try is use the tableau data interpreter to read the data and see how far this gets you. When you read a file, there's a box you can tick to use Tableau's data interpreter. This might save you some in cleaning up the data.

Alternatively, Tableau offers a prep builder, however its a paid product and I haven't used it myself, so I can't vouch for how effective it is and how complicated files are handled. You can check out their page here:

tableau prep

Otherwise, I mostly clean up the data, so that it's read with Tableau, or directly use csv files if I know I'll be working with Tableau.

Thanks Eli, I tried but tableau data intrepreter is not able to recognize the complex excel file which I shared with you.

Thanks

Syed
